Dear Parler Paris Reader,
Remember Rod Sterling and The Twilight Zone?:
"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call The Twilight Zone."
Weird things happen in the city of twilight we call "Paris." "Nee nee nee nee nee nee nee nee..." -- play the theme song -- it will bring it all back to you: www.kfcplainfield.com/sound/twilightzone.wav
That's what we were singing Saturday afternoon after a very strange series of events:
We were minding our own business, shopping for a few things at the "BHV" -- the department store across from the Hôtel de Ville that everyone who moves to Paris gets to know intimately because it has everything but the kitchen sink (literally) -- when we heard the moans and groans -- sounds of pain, agony, despair and screams! The intersection at rue des Archives and rue de la Verrerie was uncrossable thanks to the hoards of ghouls and goblins having taken to the streets on Saturday afternoon in the annual "Zombie Walk Paris" beginning at Châtelet, ending at Place des Vosges.
We caught the tail end of about 800 "mort-vivants" (living dead) of every sex and every age enjoying every moment of frightening the onlookers with realistic make-up and costumes that would fool even the foolhardy. Florence Richburg, my companion, had to be cajoled into sticking with the plan to return home with our purchases, as she was smitten with the bloody paraders and wanted to follow them along. Reluctantly she complied unwillingly after taking a few photos and giving me a truly sad puppy dog look.
Later that day, long after we both returned to our prospective abodes, I received an email from Florence with this text:
"Okay how weird is it that you sent this to me YESTERDAY...and we saw the SAME parade TODAY?" Florence:

Paris, France----------------------------------
(You can read the entire article from November 2, 2009 at parlerparis/issues/pparis2-11-09.html)
"No, Florence. I didn't send you that email yesterday."
"Nee nee nee nee nee nee nee nee..."
"You're scaring me!"
"I swear I didn't send you that email yesterday. Let me look. No, it's not in my 'Sent' box and therefore I couldn't have sent it."
At that moment, a latched and closed window in my apartment, flew wildly open! It shocked me, to say the least.
And poor Florence, she may never get over it.
"Nee nee nee nee nee nee nee nee..." and Halloween is still 13 (lucky) days away!
